SepiaDoc License Agreement

This is the agreement that comes with SepiaDoc. It's also in the app's folder as LICENSE.

SEPIADOC LICENSE AGREEMENT
Version 1.1, October 2026

SepiaDoc is made by Mako Logics LLC, a Texas limited liability company
("Mako Logics", "we"). This agreement is between you and Mako Logics, and it
applies when you install or use SepiaDoc, including its command-line tool
(sepiadoc-cli) and its updates. If you don't agree to it, don't install or use
SepiaDoc.

In short: SepiaDoc is free for personal use at home. Businesses pay for a
low-cost Business License. Your documents stay on your computer.


1. PERSONAL USE IS FREE

You may install and use SepiaDoc free of charge, on any number of computers
you own or control, for personal, non-commercial purposes. Examples: your own
household paperwork, personal taxes, forms for your family, school work, and
applying for a job.


2. BUSINESS USE NEEDS A BUSINESS LICENSE

Any other use is "business use" and needs a paid SepiaDoc Business License from
Mako Logics, one for each person who uses SepiaDoc. Business use includes using
SepiaDoc:
  (a) at or for a company, partnership, sole proprietorship, or other business;
  (b) for work you are paid for, including freelance and contract work;
  (c) at or for a government body, school, nonprofit, or other organization.

Evaluation. A business may try SepiaDoc free of charge for 30 days before
buying. After 30 days, continued business use needs a Business License.

Business Licenses are bought from Mako Logics on the terms and at the price

3. WHAT YOU MAY NOT DO

You may not:
  (a) sell, rent, lease, or charge for SepiaDoc, or include it in a product or
      service you sell;
  (b) modify SepiaDoc, or reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble it,
      except where applicable law allows it despite this restriction;
  (c) remove or change any copyright, trademark, or license notice;
  (d) distribute a modified copy of SepiaDoc or its installer.

You may give other people an unmodified copy of the official SepiaDoc
installer, free of charge. Their use is covered by this agreement.


4. YOUR DOCUMENTS AND YOUR PRIVACY

Your documents belong to you. SepiaDoc works on your computer. It does not
upload your documents, has no account, and collects no usage data. It
connects to the internet only to check for SepiaDoc updates: by itself about
once a day (you can switch this off in Help > About, and an organization can
switch it off for all of its computers), and whenever you press Check for
updates. An update check sends nothing about you or your documents. A new
version it finds is downloaded, confirmed as signed by Mako Logics LLC, and
installed when you close SepiaDoc.
Details you save in SepiaDoc (such as your name, address, and signatures) are
stored on your computer, encrypted to your Windows account.


5. OWNERSHIP

SepiaDoc is licensed to you, not sold. Mako Logics and its licensors own
SepiaDoc and all rights in it, except the rights this agreement gives you.
"SepiaDoc" and the SepiaDoc logo are trademarks of Mako Logics LLC.


6. THIRD-PARTY COMPONENTS

SepiaDoc includes components made by others, such as the PDFium PDF engine,
the .NET runtime, Avalonia, and several fonts. They are listed in the NOTICE
file and the "licenses" folder that come with SepiaDoc. Each is provided under
its own license, and nothing in this agreement limits your rights under those
licenses for those components.


7. UPDATES

Mako Logics may release updates but doesn't have to. Updates are covered by
this agreement unless they come with a different one. SepiaDoc installs an
update only when you choose to.


8. NO WARRANTY

SepiaDoc is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind,
express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a
particular purpose, and non-infringement. Mako Logics does not warrant that
SepiaDoc will be error-free or uninterrupted. Always keep a copy of important
documents before you change them.


9. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

To the fullest extent the law allows, Mako Logics will not be liable for any
indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any
loss of data, profits, revenue, or business, arising out of or relating to
SepiaDoc or this agreement, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Mako Logics' total liability for all claims is limited to the greater of the
amount you paid for SepiaDoc in the 12 months before the claim, or US $50.

Some places don't allow these exclusions or limits, so some of them may not
apply to you.


10. ENDING THIS AGREEMENT

This agreement lasts until it ends. It ends automatically if you break it.
When it ends, you must stop using SepiaDoc and delete your copies. Sections 4
to 6 and 8 to 12 continue after it ends.


11. EXPORT

You must follow all United States export laws and regulations that apply to
SepiaDoc.


12. GENERAL

This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States,
without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be heard in the
state or federal courts located in Montgomery County, Texas, and you and Mako
Logics agree to their jurisdiction. If any part of this agreement can't be
enforced, the rest still applies. This agreement, together with any Business
License you buy, is the whole agreement between you and Mako Logics about
SepiaDoc.
